Mycollan are often found in thick forests, tropical jungles, or in places where the environment is moist, and flora and fauna is plentiful. Believing themselves to be the will of all plant life; they see themselves as “gardeners” of such locations; warding off beings who they believe would wish their preserves harm. The Mycollan are, on average short, stout, with extremely long lanky extremities.
Mycollan society is very odd from the other race’s view. They typically live in small pods of between two to four dozen. Nobody is sure of their origin, though some say they were given life from the flora itself, whose want of a protector was so strong that Mycollans simply sprang forth from the ground. Very little is known about their biology outside of their small villages, which they call gardens, and the question has been raised as to how they reproduce; the secret being a matter of spores.
As a race, the Mycollan believe in the balance of nature and can innately sense when the ecosystem they are protecting is threatened. Mycollans who have lost their preserve, whether through fires or through their own failed efforts at protection, wander the wilderness, searching for a new purpose or garden to protect. Some decide that a group, rather than a plot of land, is to be their new garden and will fight to the death to keep them safe.
Most other races, with the exception of Elves, believe the Mycollan to be otherworldly, Gnomes more aggressively so. Elves tend to have the most interaction with them, and see them as forced allies, due to their role as reclaimers of desolated lands. All other races see the Mycollan as weird green Elf-Dwarves, and always give double takes and uneasy stares whenever they spot one in a city.
